Advertising Forums and Your Work at Home Business
How can using an advertising forum benefit my work at home business ? A very valid question. Participation in forums can help your business immensely. When you participate in an active forum, the potential for exposure of your website is increased dramatically.
There are basically two kinds of forums that you can use to increase traffic to your website. The first is the advertising forum. These exist purely for the purpose of promoting products, whether they be work at home business opportunities or other products. They are usually very active with hundreds of new posts every day. The other type is the discussion forum. These are often attached to a main website and offer a platform for those interested in a particular subject to voice their opinions.
Most forums have a set of rules you must abide by. They are usually fairly common sense rules. It is very important to adhere to these rules or you could find yourself getting banned. You must also make sure that your posts are not considered spam by sticking to the relevant subject.
There are a number of ways to use these forums to increase your website exposure. The first is to post an advert in a relevant thread. Read through some of the ads first and try to make your copy original and interesting so that it stands out from the other ads.
When choosing a user name, try including the name of your product or website if possible. Check the forum rules to see if hyperlinks are allowed in the signature of your user profile. If active links are permitted, every time you make a post, your signature becomes another link for your site.
Find discussion forums that are relevant to your site or a subject that you are knowledgeable or passionate about. Make sure your posts are on topic or they may be seen as spam. Ask questions or give informative feedback on your favourite subjects. Many of these forums will have a thread where you can highlight your site. Post a thread asking for feedback. Each time you make relevant changes to your site, update the thread and ask for feedback on the changes.
Be careful about bumping your posts just for the sake of bumping. This means adding a new irrelevant post to make that thread reappear at the top of the thread list. Some moderators frown on this as it can be construed as spam. They may delete your thread, or worse still ban you from posting.
Remember when posting to forums
- choose a user name that reflects your website or product
- place a link to your site in your signature if allowed
- submit your site to relevant threads designed for this purpose
- never make posts that could be identified as spam
